Most eating plans fail on a Wednesday, at about five-thirty, when nobody has decided what dinner is. The problem is rarely willpower. It is the number of decisions the plan requires.

This plan removes the decisions. One formula, one grocery run, one prep session. Repeat it as many weeks as you like.

The plate formula

Half the plate is vegetables, cooked or raw, whatever is in the house. A quarter is protein — chicken, fish, eggs, beans, or lean beef. The last quarter is a starch you actually enjoy: rice, potatoes, tortillas, bread.

Then add fat deliberately rather than accidentally: olive oil, avocado, cheese, nuts. Fat is what makes food satisfying enough that you stop thinking about it an hour later.

Breakfast, three ways, on rotation

Eggs with whatever vegetable is open, plus toast or a tortilla. Greek yogurt with fruit and nuts. Overnight oats made the night before with milk, fruit and a spoon of nut butter.

Pick two of the three for the week and stop reinventing breakfast. The goal is protein early, because it decides how hungry you are at three in the afternoon.
